Australia's Navy to Use Bluebottle USV with New Sonar for Submarine Hunting

By ASR Newsdesk ·

Australia's Navy is integrating the Ocius Technology-produced Bluebottle unmanned surface vessel (USV) into its operations, equipping it with the BlueSentry towed sonar system for submarine detection. This initiative is part of a broader expansion of Australia's unmanned systems capabilities. The Bluebottle, powered by renewable energy for extended surveillance, will be augmented by the BlueSentry sonar, manufactured by Thales Australia. Thales has opened a new assembly line for the sonar in western Sydney, funded by the company and the Australian government.

Why it matters

The integration of the Bluebottle USV with the BlueSentry sonar enhances Australia's sovereign manufacturing capability for advanced sonar systems supporting both crewed and uncrewed maritime platforms.
