By ASR Newsdesk ·

The Turkish Navy deployed its domestically developed MALAMAN smart bottom mine during the multinational Nusret 2026 mine warfare exercise. The mine was laid from the Tuzla-class patrol boat TCG Karabiga. MALAMAN is designed with acoustic, magnetic, and pressure sensors for target detection and classification, and can be programmed to engage specific vessels. The exercise, hosted by Türkiye, involved naval vessels, aircraft, and unmanned systems from NATO and partner nations, focusing on mine warfare operations and interoperability.

Why it matters

This deployment follows recent trials involving the MARLIN Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) for autonomous mine-laying operations.
