Boeing Awarded $20 Billion U.S. Navy Contract for Next-Generation F/A-XX Fighter Jet
The U.S. Navy has selected Boeing to develop and build its next-generation fighter jet, the F/A-XX. The initial contract is valued at $20 billion and will support the manufacturing of initial airframes and development costs. Boeing's St. Louis facility will be central to production. This award follows Boeing's selection for the Air Force's similar Next Generation Air Dominance program. The F/A-XX is intended to be a multi-role fighter with advanced capabilities, including manned/unmanned teaming, enhanced sensors, and greater capacity, aiming to augment the F-35C and eventually replace the F/A-18E/F Super Hornets.
Why it matters
The F/A-XX fighter will feature manned/unmanned teaming capabilities and advanced integrated systems, enhancing carrier air wing operations.
