New ISO Standard Published for Interoperability Among Mobile Robots from Multiple Vendors

By ASR Newsdesk ·

The Association for Advancing Automation (A3) has published ISO 21423:2026, a new international standard designed to enable communication and interoperability among industrial mobile robots (IMRs) from different manufacturers. The standard specifies how IMRs, fleet managers, and other equipment exchange information, allowing robots to share data on location, speed, direction, condition, tasking, and availability. This aims to reduce interference between robots, improve system efficiency, and facilitate the expansion of automation using equipment from various vendors. It also covers communication with other systems like enterprise resource planning tools and building infrastructure.

Why it matters

The standard provides a common basis for communication across robot fleets, enabling companies to integrate equipment from different vendors and enhance the utilization of existing robots.
