Japanese Universities Develop Hydrogel Enabling Drone Odor Detection Via Insect Antennae

By ASR Newsdesk ·

Researchers from Shinshu University and Chiba University in Japan have created a novel hydrogel that facilitates the attachment of insect antennae to drones. This technology allows drones to detect odors, with experiments showing a drone moving forward upon detecting a scent. The insect antennae maintained over 92% of their signal strength after seven hours in testing.

Why it matters

Enables drones to detect odors and move directionally based on scent detection.
