India Contracts BrahMos Systems for Legacy Kashin and Veer Class Naval Vessels
India's Ministry of Defence has awarded a contract valued at ₹661.5 crore ($68 million) to BrahMos Aerospace for BrahMos Fire Control Systems and Launchers. These systems are intended to upgrade the Indian Navy's older Kashin-class destroyers and Tarantul-class derived corvettes, specifically two Veer and two Ranvir class ships. The project aims for over 68% indigenous content. This upgrade is notable as these vessels are nearing the end of their service life.
Why it matters
Equipping older, nearing-end-of-service naval vessels with modern missile systems is a noteworthy effort.
