Fincantieri Expands Underwater Capabilities with Acquisitions and Integrated Systems
Fincantieri is pursuing a strategy to become a vertically integrated operator in the underwater domain. This involves acquiring majority stakes in companies like Next Geosolutions, WSense, Graal Tech, and Defcomm, to build capabilities in marine survey, underwater sensing, robotics, and uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs). The company is developing DEEP and DEEP 4D systems, which are designed to protect critical infrastructure by integrating fixed underwater sensing with mobile systems like AUVs and USVs, and extending awareness to surface and aerial domains. A demonstration of the DEEP system has been installed for the Italian Navy.
Why it matters
Fincantieri's integrated approach and DEEP systems aim to enhance protection for critical infrastructure and naval bases across multiple domains.
