UAF Ice Tower Provides Controlled Environment for Drone Icing Research
The University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute's Alaska Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration (ACUASI) has established a new research facility called the Supercooled Water Experimental Arctic Tower. This tower is designed to create calibrated icing conditions, allowing researchers and students to study the effects of ice buildup on drone lift, control, and overall performance.
Why it matters
The facility enables controlled study of how ice accumulation impacts drone flight characteristics.
