Naval Group Rolls Out Fifth Suffren-Class Nuclear Attack Submarine Rubis

Naval Group has rolled out the fifth Suffren-class nuclear attack submarine, named Rubis (S639), at its Cherbourg facility. The vessel has been transferred to a shiplift in preparation for sea trials before its delivery to the French Navy. This submarine is part of a program to replace the older Rubis-class submarines, with six new SSNs scheduled for delivery by 2030. The program involves extensive collaboration with the French defense procurement agency, the French Atomic Energy Commission, and numerous industrial partners.
