Indian Navy Orders Eight Next Generation Corvettes Worth $5.7 Billion

By ASR Newsdesk ·

India's Ministry of Defence has contracted Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) and Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) to build eight Next Generation Corvettes (NGCs) for the Indian Navy. The contracts, valued at approximately $5.7 billion, will see GRSE construct five vessels and GSL build the remaining three. These NGCs are indigenously designed by the Indian Navy and will be constructed by selected Defence Public Sector Undertakings. The corvettes are expected to be equipped with advanced weaponry, including anti-ship missiles and surface-to-air missiles, and will have capabilities for offensive attack, anti-submarine warfare, air defence, and escort duties. Deliveries are anticipated to begin by 2031.
